FIXED BED CATALYSTS
ActiveSite brings extensive experience in fixed bed catalysts, pairing precious and base metals with a range of support materials and form factors. These catalysts are used in fixed bed reactors that support continuous processes, making them especially useful when moving from batch to continuous production.
We offer fixed bed catalysts in four variations:
-
Contract Manufacturing
-
Custom Manufacturing
-
Standard Product Catalysts
-
Make Your Own Catalysts

Contract Manufacturing
Contract manufacturing takes place using an existing client
recipe for catalyst manufacturing. ActiveSite has both pilot
assets for initial demonstration and production assets for
commercial manufacturing.
Our skilled team of engineers and chemists can help implement your catalyst at any scale (Lab, pilot, or commercial).

Custom Manufacturing
Custom catalysts are typically required for clients developing new chemicals or chemical processes. The ActiveSite team can help select materials to perform specific transformations and optimize catalytic performance.
Our custom catalyst process begins with preparation and laboratory trials followed by pilot scale demonstration.
We can provide material at all scales including commercialization.

Frequently Asked Questions
What metal groups does ActiveSite supply for fixed bed catalysts?
ActiveSite offers a broad, competitive portfolio of fixed bed catalyst preparations and precious metal options including both base metal. We work with customers to identify the right catalyst for each application and provide development services for custom solutions.
Do you offer technical consultation for catalyst selection or troubleshooting?
With more than 25 years of catalyst experience, our team supports every stage of implementation—from selection, activation, loading, deactivation, analysis, regeneration, and recovery.
What information is needed to recommend a fixed bed catalyst?
ActiveSite typically needs details about the reaction, feed composition, operating conditions, reactor design, and performance goals. Our team of chemists and engineers can also help you specify these areas.
What catalyst shapes or morphologies are available for fixed bed applications?
ActiveSite offers a range of shapes, each chosen to balance pressure drop, mechanical strength, surface area, and mass/heat transfer. Examples include spheres, cylindrical pellets, trilobe and quadrilobed extrudates, rings, monoliths, and tablets.
What are the advantages of switching from slurry to fixed bed catalysts for continuous processing?
Moving from a batch slurry catalyst process to a continuous fixed bed catalyst operation eliminates catalyst separation which improves productivity and lowers production costs. Because the catalyst remains in the reactor, fixed bed systems eliminate repeated charging, discharging, cleaning, and catalyst separation steps such as filtration or centrifugation. This can reduce equipment needs, product loss, labor requirements, and operator exposure while supporting more consistent conversion, selectivity, and catalyst utilization over time.
Fixed bed systems aren’t the right fit for every application, particularly when catalyst deactivation is significant.
Fixed Bed Catalysts Overview
-
ActiveSite offers fixed bed catalysts that pair precious and base metals with a range of support materials and form factors, supporting the shift from batch to continuous production.
-
Fixed bed catalysts are available three ways: contract manufacturing, custom manufacturing, or off-the-shelf.
-
Custom catalysts can be built from active metals (Pt, Pd, Ni, Rh, Cu, Fe, Co, and more), promoter metals, and support types like alumina, silica, titania, and zirconia, in form factors including spheres, extrudates, pellets, monoliths, and granules.
-
ActiveSite maintains a catalog of off-the-shelf catalysts - including the Palladiform, Platinex, Rhodimax, Nickelous, and Nexus product lines - built on selected active phases, supports, and quantities.
